Here’s JAMES NEWELL’s excellent SLAYER PAGE. I’m really knocked out by his art and hope you are, too! So we now have our SIX SPACE WARP ARTISTS, which means SPACE WARP PHASE ONE IS COMPLETE!
Introducing Bruno Stahl, new artist on Jurassic Man – check out his concept art! Set in 1979 Liverpool, dinosaurs have invaded our world through a time portal…
GREAT WAR DUNDEE – THE WAR IN COMICS AND POPULAR CULTURE
Friday 20th September 2019 sees the launch of a comic telling the story of the immense impact the Great War and its aftermath had on Dundee.
CHANGE OF ARTIST ON JURASSIC MAN
Simon decided, with great regret, that time was really against him on the story and therefore he could not continue drawing Jurassic Man. I’ll be announcing the new artist shortly.
Special thanks to comic artist Dave Broughton who drew this picture of me looking surprisingly youthful. And with an old-school typewriter to match!
Ragtime Soldier follows the tradition of my anti-war saga Charley’s War. It focuses on the Battle of Loos, where Scottish losses were heavy. And Dundee’s in particular.
Given that I’ve just written a new Great War story (Ragtime Soldier, in collaboration with Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art & Design and University of Dundee), I think it’s time I revisited the public lecture I gave at the University of Liverpool in 2014 on how Charley’s War was a challenge to the revisionist spin we have been experiencing in the years leading up to, and during, the centenary of the Great War.
Check out Ian Ashcroft’s art for Hellbreaker, including a blinding title page! Plus: a showcase for other great art that didn’t make the cut for Space Warp.
SNEAK PREVIEW OF OPENING FRAME OF XECUTIONERS BY GARETH SLEIGHTHOLME
Our two cop heroes wear ‘smart aprons’ and masks to protect them from enemy bio-hackers and Xtraterrestrials.
This is ADE HUGHES title page for SF1. Combined with his designs for the characters and other comic action pages that I’ve seen, Ade is definitely the right artist for this future war group saga featuring a team of humans, aliens, and robots fighting a sinister enemy and giant bacteria on Crater (the planet formerly known as Earth).
This is Page One from FUTANT. It’s a nickname for Future Mutants. However the Futants’ critics who hate and fear them also refer to these super-powered beings as F*cking Mutants! So it can have two meanings…
Two images of De La Rue, the Infernal, from Hellbreaker by Ian Ashcroft are shown below. Ian also submitted a great action page of De La Rue up against the cops who have been specially assigned to take the Hellbreaker down. I’ve always been so impressed by Ian’s comic art so I was thrilled that he wanted to draw Hellbreaker. As you can see, he’s cracked it!
