HELLBREAKER ART

Artist Ian Ashcroft’s character studies and title page for Hellbreaker, one of six stunning stories featured in Pat Mills’ Space Warp

In HELLBREAKER, Infernals (the Dead sentenced to eternal punishment in Hell) have broken out of their prison and returned to Earth to exact vengeance on the Living.

The first Infernal to escape is our protagonist DE LA RUE, with his sidekick, a lawyer called RICHTER.

Nice. Stylistically unique too. The atmospheric qualities of a wash, complimented (not dominated) by the definition of the outlines. The title page has it all. Brooding menace, regret, resignation and hope. And lots of depth. Or more depth than you usually see with just tones of grey. Gotta mention that shady Priest. I don’t trust him, he’s got a very unwholesome look that smells of last night’s sour brandy and shame. More than anything though, this art has a consistently organic feel to it all that just flows really well.
